Raw Power Protein Superfood Powder Reviews & Info (Vegan, Dairy-Free)

The second I saw the name Thor Bazler at the helm of Raw Power, I was sold. Seriously, that is a very cool name for someone who produces protein and nutritional supplements. But behind the name lies a company that is very passionate about quality.

Raw Power is of course raw, vegan, certified organic, and made with a crazy load of superfoods. The ingredients include Maca, Goji Berries, Brazil Nuts, Hemp, Mesquite, and … wait, that’s everything. Yes, there are no fillers of any kind. Raw Power is a truly whole food blend

Tasting Notes for Raw Power Protein Superfood Powder

I heard about Raw Power from a press release announcing a 30% increase in the powder’s protein content. Since my husband and I were about to embark on a new fitness program, this seemed like the perfect product to add to our regimen.

In terms of the protein, Raw Power met our needs for a post-workout recovery drink. It’s also a great option for providing nutritional balance to energizing fruit smoothie. One serving previously had 8 grams of protein, but it now clocks in at 10.5 grams with the reformulation. The package is a bit limited on serving instructions, but from their website, I found that one serving is 1/4 cup of the powder added to 12 ounces of water.

I did try it in a shaker cup with just water first. Since it contains some hemp protein powder, there was a slight sandy texture. Nonetheless, it was much smoother overall than pure hemp protein. The taste wasn’t really sweet or bitter, but it wasn’t bad. I found it drinkable, though not something I would crave. This prompted my transition to smoothies.

Although Raw Power is made from hemp and brazil nuts, it is pretty low in fat (just 2 grams per serving). Unlike many protein powders it also has a good does of carbs, which I like. They say the perfect carbohydrate to protein ratio for a recovery drink is 4:1. With this in mind, I blended 1 serving of Raw Power with 1 cup of orange juice or a banana for my post workout needs.

Raw Power adds a little texture and thickness to fruit smoothies, along with the slightest berry and nutty notes. I really enjoyed it this way, but halfway through the canister, an idea came to mind. I keep seeing chocolate bars spiked with goji, maca and other superfoods, so why not make my own?

I melted a good chunk of dark Callebaut chocolate, let it cool, and stirred in a serving of Raw Power. I poured the chocolate into some silicone muffin tins, put them in the freezer for about an hour, and viola … homemade Superfood Chocolate! While I could still detect a little bit of that hemp grit, it was delicious overall and a great way to enjoy an antioxidant boost.
