an update (not a recipe)


Hello hot for foodies,

If you’re an avid and devoted reader of this blog, following my IG, or you’re part of my YouTube community (or maybe all of the above) you’ve noticed I’ve been featuring vegan taste tests with my pal Comedian Chris ‘C-Snacks’ Clarke on YouTube and Instagram every week. He’s hilarious right? C-Snacks is reviewing all kinds of snacks on his own YouTube channel but he’s been curious about that vegan life for a while. I thought it would be fun to amplify his game on the hot for food channels and get him tasting some epic vegan eats for y’all to try. I love his spontaneous song and dance breaks and he feeds his face like I do. FULL ON!

Showcasing some content from another YouTube creator felt like the right thing to do and it was perfect timing that this opportunity came up because I happen to run this hot for food thing all by myself and I only have so much fuel in the tank. I need a real break y’all. With the Covid-19 pandemic and important anti-racism revolution taking place around the world my mind has been spiralling. I’ve been devoting whatever extra time and energy I have to self-reflect, listen, and learn/unlearn from anti-racist educators and creators. I’ve also been reading more than ever, paying attention to the news of the world (which I’ve never done), and familiarized myself with a lot of the politics I also willfully ignored and refused to participate in up until a couple of months ago. If you want to hear me get a little deeper into my realizations since the recent uprising of Black Lives Matter, I had a two-part conversation about racism with my friend that you can watch on my Lauren In Real Life channel here.

Simultaneously I’m putting in hours editing and designing (with my publishing team) my upcoming cookbook hot for food all day coming out March 16, 2021. Mark your calendars! All this to say, it’s a lot, and it leaves little time for creativity that I can channel into YouTube content, recipe development, and photography. I have never posted something personal like this on the blog – maybe that will change going forward? – but I wanted to keep you updated and in the loop, I guess. I feel like changes are underway and on the horizon for hot for food, but I don’t know what it IS exactly. I’m not going anywhere, and I’m certainly not going to become a non-vegan (LOL) but I’m not clear on how I want to show up online and in this community. Life is weird right now, ya? I do love making videos and recipes but not right now, so I can’t force it.

If you’ve read this far, thank you! Thanks for supporting this blog, the book, the channel(s) and all the endeavours of hot for food over the years. Just know hot for food isn’t going anywhere, but I have to bring my best and be in love with it and when I can do that again I will. Stay safe, wear a mask, and be kind to one another.
